Phoenix, Arizona (April 15, 2007)
World-ranked shooters from six different countries converged onto the desert of the American Southwest and the prestigious Arizona Cup. Once again, it was Easton shooters taking every gold medal in all Men\'s & Women\'s compound and recurve classes.
In this World-ranking, FITA-style tournament, competitors vie for seeding the first two days, shooting a full FITA round with Men\'s compound & recurve classes firing 36 arrows at each 90, 70, 50 & 30 meter distance, for a total of 144 arrows and possible score of 1440. Both Women\'s classes also shoot a full FITA round of 144 arrows at 70, 60, 50, & 30 meters, with the same possible score of 1440. On day three, archers compete head-to-head at 70 meters, with the high score advancing to the next round until a champion is crowned.
The Men\'s compound class proved to be another exciting finish as 21-year-old Braden Gellenthien (pictured top, left) went the distance, taking the esteemed gold medal using Easton\'s new X10 ProTour, while fellow Easton pro Rodger Willett Jr. won the bronze-medal match using X10 ProTours. Easton employees Jeff McNail (pictured top, right) and Jeremy Crowther also competed at this year\'s Arizona Cup. While both competitors shot well, McNail\'s performance earned an impressive, top-ten spot. Women compound shooters also utilized Easton\'s new X10 ProTour with its high-modulus carbon, and tapered, stiff-tail design for a complete podium sweep by U.S. shooters. Jahna Davis (pictured lower, right red visor) showed her shooting prowess taking the Arizona Cup gold in back-to-back years. Davis edged out silver medallist, Jamie Van Natta (pictured lower, right black hat), by one point. Brittany Lorenti locked up the final medal, eclipsing Danielle Brown of Great Britain for bronze.
It should come as no surprise that both Men\'s and Women\'s recurve divisions were a clean sweep by the barreled design of the X10--the World\'s most accurate recurve arrow. Karen Scavotto and Khatuna Lorig are both Olympic Training Center athletes, who showed they are well on their way to qualifying for archery\'s highest playing field. In their hotly contested gold-medal match, it was Scavotto winning by two points over Lorig. Past Olympic shooter Jennifer Nichols rounded out the podium with an impressive bronze-medal match over Phyllis Shipman (Women\'s recurve podium pictured lower left). For the men it was Brady Ellison taking gold, Vic Wunderle with silver, and Dan Schuller for bronze. All men placed their trust in Easton\'s famed X10.
