Redding, California (May 6, 2007)
The NFAA Marked 3D Championship (a.k.a. Redding shoot) is arguably the toughest 3D shoot in the nation with intense shooting conditions, tough terrain and extended target placement. The new and highly touted X10 ProTour sweeps the competition and leaves its mark as the truest, long-distance compound arrow.
The unique format of Redding makes up a big part of the challenge. The tournament is set in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, making up and downhill shots the norm rather than the exception. Add to that shot distances ranging from four to 101 yards, plus archers must also focus on yardage cutting and playing the wind to earn maximum points. Two arrows per target on 70 targets over a three-day span can add to the daunting nature of Redding. All 3D animal targets are marked with orange dots, depending on the shot distance. An orange-dot hit means an eleven, while a miss holding inside the small, marked \"kill-zone\" is a ten. Eights are given for a body hit outside the ten-ring, giving an overall possible score of 1540. This format means that each arrow and every single point are extremely critical and can mean the difference between a podium finish or not. One point or a shoot off when archers are tied, often decides the Redding tournament, and this year was no exception.
For the Men\'s Pro division, it was Dan McCarthy shooting a new course record of 1535, dropping only five points using his X10 ProTours. McCarthy is a top shooter on the ASA & IBO Pro 3D tour, where unmarked yardage is the critical factor. This was McCarthy\'s first attempt at the marked 3D Redding course, making him a new NFAA Champion to be reckoned with. One point behind in second place was Easton Pro and top-ranked World FITA shooter, Dave Cousins, shooting a 1534 using X10 ProTours. Cousins is the perennial favorite at Redding, having more podium finishes at that venue in the last five years than any other archer. Former Vegas winner Jesse Broadwater captured third for Team Easton with a 1533 using X10 ProTours, while fellow Easton shooters John Dudley and Zak Kurtzhals, both using ProTours, rounded out 4th & 5th place.
The Women Pros also had a first-time winner that is known more as a 3D assassin than a marked-yardage shooter. Easton pro Alicia McHenry took top honors for the women with a 1513 using her X10 ProTours. Taking second was up-and-coming Erika Anschutz and her X10 ProTours with a 1510. Anschutz continues her impressive 2007 season and builds on her points lead for NFAA Women Pro Shooter of the Year. To round out the top pro classes, it was Rodney Huffman and X10 ProTours for first in the Men\'s fingers division, and Tom Crowe and X10 ProTours taking number one for the Senior Pros.
The difficult course and challenging shooting conditions proved once again that archery pros choose Easton innovation to reach the winner\'s podium. Designed for ultimate precision in spine and weight consistency, Easton A/C arrows are built to win.
