DUBAI, UAE (24 November 2007) -- The stunning backdrop of the Persian Gulf emirate of Dubai hosted, for the first time, the most prestigious non-Olympic competition in target archery- the finals of the 2007 FITA Archery World Cup. The stunning backdrop for the final battle consisted of a specially constructed floating shooting platform set on an artificial lake directly in the incredible Madinat Jumeirah resort.

With global television coverage and an estimated 250-million viewers, along with a standing-room-only crowd, the recurve and compound finalists put their skills to the test. For the second year in a row, every single World Cup finalist chose Easton A/C technology arrows, with X10 and Pro Tour the choice of all the compound competitors, and X10 the choice of all the recurve medalists.

Petra Ericsson of Sweden (X10), who is also a top recurve shooter, took the honors in Women’s Compound with a victory in the Gold Medal match over past World Champion Sofia Goncharova of the Russian federation (Pro Tour). Third was America’s Jamie Van Natta, holder of the FITA World Record (Pro Tour).

On the men’s side, the incredible legend of El Salvador, Jorge Jiminez (Pro Tour) continued his steamroller domination of the World Cup circuit, defeating American shooter and Hoyt teammate Braden Gellenthein (Pro Tour)in a hotly contested final match. Brazil’s top shooter Roberval Dos Santos took the bronze with his Pro Tours.

In Men’s recurve, first place was won by Russian Federation archer Baljinima Tsirempilov (X10), with second place taken by Mexico’s Juan Rene Serrano (X10). Great Britain’s Al Wills (X10) took third place in his first foray to the World Cup finals.

In Women’s recurve it was another Easton sweep, with India’s Dola Banerjee (X10) taking first place, Korean shooter Choi Eun Young (X10) second, and Russian federation archer Natalya Erdynieva (X10) third.
