Years in archery
How you got your start in archery
I got started in archery because I always wanted to practice it, but archery was unknown as a sport in my city. It was more like a hobby or just for hunting. Until 2003, archery was introduced to INDE, Instituto Del Deporte de Baja California, and then I started to shoot. First in my city, then in my state, then my country and now I'm shooting on a World competition level.
Mentor/Inspiration in archery
My coach, Jaekyun Choi, is my mentor. My inspirations are Park Kyun Mo, Oh Jin Hyek, Kisik Lee and Wong Lee (last two are coaches).
Hoyt and Easton
Favorite place to shoot/compete
Utah, Antalya, Turkey in the countryside or ocean side. I like the landscape of many places.
Breakthrough moment in archery
in 2012, I wasn't considered for the team in the Cups, but in the last qualification round in Mexico City, I went to shoot off against another archer from Mexico. I shot a n X and the other archer shot a 9. In that moment, I made the Mexican team for the first time. That's a precious moment for me.
Birthday and where you are living
March 13, 1991 and currently living in Tijuana Baja California at the Spanish High Performance Training Center.
What Easton means to you
Easton means responsibility. It's an honor that not many others have. I'm honored beyond words.
When I’m not shooting, you can find me
Studying. I'm a Mechanical Engineering major, so most of the time I try to advance in school. I also like fishing -deep sea or fly.
Mexican food, Korean food (Kimchi is a strong flavored meal, but it's good) and of course Jack in the Box.
When I’m on the shooting line
Shooting sequence or technique is going through my head
Tip for the average archer
Never stop trying. Never stop pushing forward. Always keep fighting and always keep the good fight.
I like rock, ACDC, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Guns N Roses. But I also like classic music for relax and chill times. I like a bit of all genres of music.
Jurassic Park. I also like thriller movies, dramas, action and comedy movies.
I drive a Jeep Wrangler Sahara, and it's the best car.
If you could have “coffee” with someone from history, who would it be?
Probably Genghis Khan, not for the power he once had, but for the art of achery. Back in those times, those guys were expert archers capable of shooting up to 300 mts. Serious archery!
Philosophy of life/motto
Always keep moving forward. You can't stay the smae, you need to move. You need to improve and get better and learn everyday.
Luis Alverz is better knowon for his nickname "el Abuelo", the Spanish for grandfather.
