When did you start Archery and how long have you been on the National Team

I started when I was 6 and I have been on the Junior or Senior U.S. Archery team for the past 14 consecutive years.

How did you get your start in Archery

I started shooting when I was barely 6 years old.  My father has always bowhunted and used to compete in local and national tournaments.  I would go to the range with him all the time and eventually asked for a bow so I could try it.  I attended my first national tournament (the NFAA Indoor Nationals) five months after I started and won the tournament the very next year.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Mentor / Inspiration in Archery

I wouldn't be where I am without both of my parents.  Not only did my father introduce me to the sport, he has taught me everything I know about it.  He has put in countless hours throughout the years working with me and has never even begun to complain.  My mother is also a huge part of my success.  On more than one occasion, she has helped me stay positive and put things in perspective.  My journey has definitely been shaped by what each of them have taught me.

Favorite place to shoot / compete

My favorite place to shoot is with the guys at our club's league night.  Even though we may be "competing" for the league title, we always have a great time.  Shooting with them reminds me of what archery is supposed to be like.  It's really nice to kick back and have fun shooting my bow without feeling the pressure to put every arrow in the middle.

Breakthrough moment in your Archery Career

I'm not really sure what I consider my "breakthrough moment" in archery.  With that in mind, I suppose the best way to answer this question is to think about what I consider to be my first great achievement.  So here goes… I attended my first international competition (the Junior World Championships) in the Czech Republic when I was 13 years old.  Not only did I win the gold medal, I set a new world record in the gold medal match.  At 70 meters, I scored 117 points out of 120.  Even though I had shot many great scores and won numerous national tournaments before that, looking back, I think it was that gold medal and world record that really started my career.

Where were you born and where do you life now

I was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on December 23, 1988 and currently live in Grand Island, Nebraska.

What Easton means to you

I never compromise on the quality of my equipment.  If any piece of my equipment negatively affects my performance, I won't use it.  This is because the most important thing to me is the ability to hit what I'm aiming at.  I have no question that a huge part of my success can be attributed to my Easton arrows.  The reliableness and quality that I get with my Easton arrows is unmatched.

When Im not shooting, you can find me

Mountain biking, playing card games and spending time with my husband and puppy

Favorite foods

Like many people, my favorite food varies based on my mood.  Sometimes I really have to have chocolate and other times I may have a craving for hamburger and pepperoni pizza.  Homemade brownies are one of my major weaknesses.  When I was growing up, my mother would always have warm brownies waiting on me when I got home from winning a tournament.  I also can't forget about my love for bread.  As many of my friends know, never get between me and the breadsticks from Olive Garden or the rolls from Texas Roadhouse.

When I’m on the line, shooting for Gold, this is going through my head

When I get nervous, I sing song lyrics to myself.  The lyrics that I generally "sing" or think of are from a song that my mother and sister sang to me when I was young.

Tips for the recreational archer to shoot more like you

Think positively at all times.  Instead of dwelling on bad shots, you should focus your mind on what it feels like to make a good shot.  The more you envision and think about making good shots, the more good shots you will make.

Philosophy of life / motto

"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
